The study aimed to investigate the nature of the histological changes that occur in the structure of the hippocampus in male rats across different age groups, analyzing the morphological and histological differences associated with aging. The thesis also focused on investigating the relationship between the development of hippocampal tissue and the expression level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), given the essential role this factor plays in the growth and maturation of nerve cells and the promotion of neuroplasticity.

The study included an evaluation of several immunological markers associated with glial cells and apoptosis (programmed cell death), as well as an analysis of oxidative stress markers in hippocampal tissue. The aim was to develop a comprehensive scientific understanding of the mechanisms of neuronal maturation and age-related changes in this highly functional brain region.

“Histological Effect of Lepidium sativum Extract on the Pituitary and Mammary Glands in Adult Local Female Rabbits”.

The study aimed to evaluate the histological effect of garden cress (Lepidium sativum) extract on the pituitary and mammary glands in adult local female rabbits. The results showed clear structural changes in the treated groups compared to the control groups, including increased eosinophil activity in the pituitary gland, dilation and enlargement of the ducts, and increased secretory activity in the mammary glands.

The discussion was held under the supervision and guidance of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al-Kaabi, and the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Ihab Ghazi Mahdi. “The Relationship Between the Genotypes of the Hydatid Cyst Parasite and Meat Quality in Sheep.”

The study aimed to identify and molecularly characterize the genotypes of the Echinococcus granulosus parasite isolated from sheep in the Holy Karbala Governorate, as well as to evaluate the impact of hydatid cyst infection on sheep tissues and meat quality.

The results showed the presence of a local Iraqi strain with genetic similarity to international strains, along with the recording of significant histological and physicochemical changes that affected meat quality, with the liver being the most affected organ, followed by the lungs.

This study contributes to enhancing the scientific understanding of hydatid cysts and their health and economic implications, thus supporting scientific research efforts in the field of veterinary public health.

“The Effect of Saffron on Carotenectin, Avamin, and Oxidative Stress in Rats with Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes.”

The thesis aimed to study the preventative and therapeutic role of saffron in reducing the damage caused by diabetes. The researcher used an experimental model on rats, which showed remarkable results, including improved insulin levels, reduced blood sugar, improved indicators of oxidative stress and lipid profile, as well as moderate regeneration of pancreatic beta cells.

The student received a grade of “Excellent” in recognition of her research efforts and valuable scientific findings.

The results demonstrated the importance of applying biosafety and food safety standards throughout the production, handling, and marketing of chicken meat, given its crucial role in reducing the risk of microbial contamination and protecting consumer health.

For his part, the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al-Kaabi commended the student’s efforts and the supervisory committee emphasizing the college’s commitment to supporting rigorous applied research that contributes to enhancing food security and public health, in line with the University of Karbala’s objectives of serving the community and developing the veterinary and food sectors in Iraq.

At the conclusion of the discussion, the examining committee awarded the student, Rawaa Hussein Fakhri a Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine with a grade of “Very Good,” wishing her continued success in her academic and research career.
