The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Karbala, discussed a master’s thesis in the Branch of Physiology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology accomplished by the student Haider Ali Youssef on the topic: (role of Alpha lipoic acid on the some biochemical and behavioral parameters in the neural damage induced by D-galactose in male rats).
In the in the presence of a number of researchers and teaching staff the discussion, the thesis discussion implemented on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
The aim of the thesis is to study the effect of improving ALA on brain aging caused by and the assessment of biochemistry, oxidative stress and antioxidant for behavioral analysis and memory assessment.
Furthermore, the thesis discussed the results reached by the researcher that D-galactose intraperitoneal injection of 200 mg / kg of body weight of male rats caused oxidative stress and a significant activity elevation of serum MDA on blood, ACHE activity and a significant decrease in serum concentration and CAT & SOD activities.
Additionally, the study showed a significant increase in the concentration of beta-amyloid and glutamate in the inflammation of the brain tissues and the accumulation of beta-amyloid and glutamate and the improvement of the effect by 100 mg / kg of body weight per day for ALA acids, which led to a significant decrease in the concentration of beta-amyloid and glutamate in the brain tissues and an improvement in the effect of ALA on behavioral test (FST & LDT) and memory (MWM & EPM) in ALA and D-gal + ALA compared with D-gal and control groups. Haider’s thesis approved with excellence degree.
