The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research hosted the regular meeting of the Vocational Education and Training Coordination Working Group (TVET CG) with the participation of UNESCO representatives and a number of ministries.
The Ministry’s advisor, Dr. Alaa Abdel Hassan Attia, stressed that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is working in accordance with the effective partnership with international organizations and institutions and the European Union in strengthening infrastructure and responding to the requirements of sustainable development, pointing out that the ministry and its institutions have completed many projects that had a direct impact on consolidating the educational process, especially the Bologna process and achieving the highest level of academic quality standards.
In this context, the head of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority, Dr. Salah Al-Fatlawi, explained the importance of coordination between universities and specialized organizations in line with the project to develop technical and vocational education and training and align their programs with the national strategy for education in Iraq.
For his part, the Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Development of Education in Iraq, Dr. Hamid Khalaf, stressed the need to measure the effectiveness of donor countries’ projects and activate joint responsibility in enriching educational programs and projects by discussing the establishment of a coordinating committee with the participation of the Kurdistan Region and international organizations.
For his part, UNESCO’s Senior Deputy Adviser for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Mr. Tam Maisen, said that the organization is making clear efforts with the European Union to support the vocational education and training strategy and complete the work of the steering committees dedicated to the development of this type of education in Iraq, as well as support initial and postgraduate programs and move towards field surveys to determine the future needs of the labor market.
The meeting included introducing the national strategy for education in Iraq (2022-2031), introducing the programs of UNESCO and other international organizations working with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as reviewing coordination mechanisms between partners in the fields of vocational education and training in Iraq.
