The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, held a meeting with the Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) Alexey Likhachev to discuss areas of cooperation in the field of developing nuclear energy for peaceful and educational uses.
The Minister of Education expressed his appreciation for the interest in Iraq’s participation in the International Forum (ATOMEXPO-2024) in Sochi, while praising the depth of relations between the two friendly countries and clarified the path of the national vision of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission regarding the research reactor project, which is used for scientific and health purposes, and thanked the Russian side for providing scholarships to Iraqi students in the fields of nuclear energy engineering.
For his part, the Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) Alexei Likhachev expressed the readiness of the Russian side to cooperate and coordinate on the zero reactor, research reactor and nuclear power plants, provide fellowships for energy engineering, nuclear and radiation physics and exchange experiences between universities in accordance with the context of understanding agreed upon by the two parties.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, on the sidelines of participating in the 13th edition of the (Atomexpo) International Atomic Energy Forum, which is being held in the Russian city of Sochi.
The two sides welcomed the coordination between the two countries in the scientific and academic fields and agreed to renew the bilateral cooperation agreement, while the two parties, in the presence of the accompanying delegations, expressed the importance of modernizing the scientific and cultural exchange tracks and enabling the universities of the two countries to have academic programs of common interest.
For his part, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research stressed the need to increase the number of seats granted to Iraqi students in the disciplines of nuclear energy engineering, nuclear and radiation physics, while at the same time calling on Hungarian students to study in Iraqi universities within the Study in Iraq program.
The Minister of Education explained the strategy adopted by Iraq to develop the zero nuclear reactor and clean energy plants and to establish a specialized environment for educational research in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
