The College of Veterinary Medicine organizes a seminar on koi herpesvirus disease and reducing its danger in fish

            Under the patronage and supervision of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala, Prof. Dr. Wifaq Jubouri Al-Bazi, the Scientific Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Diseases and Poultry and Fish Diseases, organized a seminar on Koi Herpes Virus and reducing its danger in fish, in which Assistant Lecturer Amir Hadawi Zaghiroun lectured.

The seminar aims to identify Koi Herpes Virus disease as an important and common disease that affects carp fish with high weights 500 grams – 2 kg and causes high economic loss to the breeder and the country due to the high percentage of perishability that reaches 100% of the project and the disease appears when the temperature changes in the third, fourth, ninth and tenth months of the year.

The panel discussion came out with a number of recommendations and for the lack of treatment for it and the lack of vaccine in Iraq in the current period, focusing on prevention methods, so prevention must be followed in reducing its danger through:

Drying clay ponds and applying sterile materials before breeding

Reduce the density of fish in the aquarium

Sterilization of tools used in breeding

Periodic sterilization of fish and treatment to avoid reducing their immunity through pathogens.
