The College of Veterinary Medicine organizes a training course on crimes of embezzlement of public funds and their impact on the Iraqi economy

Under the supervision and follow-up of Prof. Dr. Wefaq Jubouri Al-Bazi, Dean of the Faculty, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala organized a training course on embezzlement of public money and its impact on the Iraqi economy, in which a number of college employees and specialists in this field participated.

The training course aims to identify the great challenges facing the Iraqi economy, which is the phenomenon of embezzlement and financial corruption as one of the most important causes, as it leads to undermining confidence in public institutions and weakening economic growth, where two axes were highlighted: economic and financial.

Through the economic axis, the impact of embezzlement operations was identified, which is not limited to the short term, but extends to the long term, as confidence in the financial system weakens and leads to a decline in foreign investments, and that the funds that are embezzled could have been used in development projects that promote economic growth and create new job opportunities.

The legal pillar also highlighted a number of reforms and strict measures that must be taken to enhance transparency and accountability in a way that ensures strengthening the role of oversight bodies and activating laws related to combating corruption, as success in combating embezzlement also requires a change in societal culture and more awareness of the importance of integrity in achieving sustainable development goals.
