A study at the College of Veterinary Medicine discusses the physiological and histological effects of orlistat on kidney function and the role of cinnamon extract in improving it in male rats with hyperlipidemia.

The Physiology Branch at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala discussed the master’s thesis tagged with the physiological and histological effects of orlistat on kidney function and the role of cinnamon extract in improving it in male rats with hyperlipidemia by the student Banan Aad Abed.

The study aimed to address the harmful effects of orlistat on kidney tissue in male mice with hyperlipidemia. The antioxidant and protective properties of cinnamon extract were also evaluated by examining its improved effects on pathological changes in kidney tissue caused by orlistat, as well as improvements in oxidative stress, blood lipid levels and weight loss.

The researcher’s findings showed that cinnamon extract improved the level of fat in mice that ate a high-fat diet, and also led to a decrease in the activity of liver enzymes.

The letter recommended the adoption of cinnamon as a treatment for obesity and kidney disease and was approved with distinction.
