As part of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s efforts to enhance the practical aspects of its students and raise their professional competence, and under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Asaad Al-Kaabi, the College’s Summer Training Unit held an expanded coordination meeting with the administration of the Veterinary Hospital in the Holy Karbala Governorate. The meeting aimed to discuss the organizational and logistical mechanisms for the summer training program for fourth-year students at the College for the academic year 2024-2025. This program is a basic requirement for students to complete their courses by linking the theoretical aspects acquired during their years of study with practical and applied aspects in the actual work environment.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Professor Rana Abdul Amir Jawad, Head of the Summer Training Unit at the College, Dr. Wissam Al-Jaberi, Director of the Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Amna Al-Khafaji, Assistant Director of the Hospital, and a number of clinic and department officials at the Veterinary Hospital.
The meeting addressed several topics, most notably:
– Determining training locations: An agreement was reached on the locations for student trainees (according to the student’s preference). This year, these locations will include veterinary hospitals and their affiliated clinics in the governorates of Karbala, Babil, Wasit, Qadisiyah, Muthanna, and Baghdad.
– Confirming the start date of summer training, student attendance, and attendance procedures, as well as the importance of adhering to regulations during the training period.
– Defining supervision and evaluation tasks by agreeing on the appointment of academic supervisors from the college to monitor students during their training period, alongside field supervisors in veterinary hospitals and clinics. Evaluation forms were also approved to monitor students and develop their practical skills.
– Emphasizing adherence to preventive measures: Given the importance of maintaining public safety, the need for students to adhere to health and preventive measures within the hospital and to follow the instructions of veterinarians and supervisors during work was emphasized. In addition to discussing other topics during the training period, including organizing scientific activities, such as training courses, workshops, scientific seminars, and discussion groups, contributing to awareness and vaccination campaigns with the veterinary hospital staff, organizing field visits to livestock projects in the public and private sectors, and organizing and implementing initiatives and activities related to various community services in the holy Karbala Governorate.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed their willingness to maintain coordination at the highest levels and emphasized the importance of continuing joint cooperation between the two sides for the benefit of the students and the development of their academic and practical capabilities. It was also agreed to hold periodic meetings to follow up on the training period and evaluate the progress of the training program prepared for this purpose.
This meeting comes within the framework of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s commitment to providing an integrated and advanced educational environment that keeps pace with developments in various fields of veterinary medicine, thus preparing students to integrate smoothly into the job market after graduation.
