A joint committee from the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Hospital follows up on the death of fish in the Hanidiya River with the participation of Assistant Lecturer Amir Hedawi

Following reports of fish deaths in the Hanidiya River, a specialised committee from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, headed by Assistant Professor Amir Hedawi and accompanied by staff from the Veterinary Hospital, went out to conduct a field follow-up of the situation.

During the inspection, there were cases of death of small-sized fish without obvious signs of disease, at a time when the water level in the river has dropped significantly as a result of the dry season, which contributed to a decrease in the levels of dissolved oxygen in the water. The accumulation of various pollutants and waste along the riverbed has also increased the environmental pressure on aquatic organisms.

The combination of these factors – from the low water level and low oxygen levels to the accumulation of pollutants – caused the fish kills, said assistant teacher Amir Hedawi, stressing the importance of taking urgent action to minimise environmental damage and maintain the river’s ecological balance.
