Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Naim Al-Abboudi has issued ministerial orders to transform nine technical institutes within the four technical universities into Polytechnic Colleges in a strategic move that is the first of its kind in the course of university development in Iraq according to a press conference attended by the Undersecretary for Scientific Research and the presidents of the four technical universities.
In a press conference attended by the Undersecretary for Scientific Research Affairs and the presidents of the technical universities the Minister of Education explained that the creation of specialised polytechnic colleges and the conversion of a number of technical institutes to them represents a strategic decision aimed at

▪️ربط Technical universities with industry and production centres and enhance the technical capabilities that the country needs in order to implement industrial development plans
▪️تحقيق Integration between academic and applied education.
▪️توفير An attractive study environment that accommodates technological developments and provides the labour market with specialised technical competencies capable of meeting diverse requirements.
▪️فتح New horizons for innovation and entrepreneurship for students.
According to the ministerial orders issued, which will be effective from the academic year 2026/2025, the decisions are as follows:
First / Central Technical University – Baghdad
