The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the European Union Mission in Baghdad organised the Erasmus National Day events which were held at the University of Baghdad from 8 to 9 September 2025.
In his speech during the event, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi explained that cooperation programmed with the European Union represent a vital space for the advancement of higher education and scientific research noting that these programmed provide professors with opportunities to develop their expertise and expand their fields of research. enable students to engage in multicultural educational experiences open up broad windows of knowledge for researchers, and empower administrative staff to acquire modern organizational expertise in university education management and institutional governance.
The Minister of Education confirmed that the Ministry has established specialised teams to follow up on Erasmus programmes and has approved the establishment of units in every Iraqi university to serve as effective liaison centres building on international partnerships and transforming them into educational and research projects that contribute to enhancing the status of Iraqi universities in the global academic scene.
The National Day events included a scientific presentation by Deputy Minister Dr. Haider Abdul-Zahid on academic cooperation and internationalization through Erasmus, a speech by the Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation in Baghdad, Mr. Adam Janson, as well as the honoring of a number of experts in the Erasmus programmed and international academic figures.
