The College of Veterinary Medicine Organizes a Workshop on“Food and Human Rights: The Role of the Veterinarian in Sustainable Development”

       The Human Rights Unit, in cooperation with the Scientific Affairs Division at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Karbala, organized a workshop entitled:

“Food and Human Rights: The Role of the Veterinarian in Sustainable Development.” The workshop aimed to highlight the relationship between food security and human rights, and to demonstrate the pivotal role of veterinarians in achieving sustainable development, particularly in relation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

The workshop was held under the patronage and supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al-Kaabi, who emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the human right to safe and healthy food, and the role of veterinarians in supporting food security, protecting public health, and achieving the requirements of sustainable development according to international standards adopted by the United Nations.

This workshop is part of a series of scientific and awareness activities adopted by the college, in line with the university’s vision to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, and to consolidate the principles of human rights and the professional responsibility of the veterinarian.
