The College of Veterinary Medicine discusses a master’s thesis on the effect of Tribulus terrestris extract against cytarabine on the reproductive system of rats

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala discussed the study of the effect of Tribulus terrestris extract against cytarabine in the reproductive system in a master’s thesis by the student (Zahraa Muhammad Hashem). The study aimed to demonstrate the potential therapeutic advantages and antioxidant effectiveness of Tribulus terrestris herb extract and the therapeutic effects against chemically induced reproductive dysfunction and spermatogenic damage. The study included measuring liver enzymes, antioxidants superoxide dismutase, catalase, measuring MDA, hormones, semen analysis, and caspase 3 test after the rats were exposed to an excessive dose of cytarabine, and then measuring them after giving the tribulus terrestris extract. The letter also discussed the findings of the researcher regarding the presence of a decrease in the level of testosterone and both LH and FSH, in addition to a significant decrease in the levels of the enzyme catalase and superoxide dismutase, corresponding to an increase in the level of malondialdehyde in the cytarabine group. The thesis was awarded with distinction.
