The College of Veterinary Medicine discusses the effect of flaxseed in improving the performance of broiler chickens under heat stress

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala, Public Health Branch, discussed the master’s thesis of student Harith Mudar Jawad under the title:

(Effect of whole flaxseed in a low-energy diet on broiler chicken production performance and gene expression under the influence of heat stress)

(Impact of Whole Flaxseed in Reduced Energy Diet on Broiler Chickens Performance and Gene Expression under Heat Stress)

The study aimed to evaluate the positive and negative effects of using flaxseed as a substitute for vegetable oils as an energy source, especially after exposing chicken chicks in the experiment to heat stress.

The results of the research through the analysis of studied traits including gene expression and tissue sections as well as productive traits showed that flaxseed constitutes a suitable and effective alternative as an energy source.

The study confirmed that growing flaxseeds locally in Iraq is a promising step that can contribute significantly to reducing poultry production costs and enhancing productivity, by providing an economical and efficient alternative to traditional energy sources such as vegetable oils.

As a result of the unprecedented rise in the prices of feed materials in recent years in Iraq, which prompted animal breeders to search for less expensive and more feasible alternatives to the composition of broiler chicken diet, flaxseed was a suitable option for this purpose.

The discussion was attended by a number of professors and researchers, and they praised the importance of research and its role in providing practical solutions to the challenges of high production costs in the poultry sector in Iraq, and the efforts made by the researcher were praised and the discussion committee distinguished his message with excellence.
