Under the generous patronage of the President of the University of Karbala, Professor Sabah Wajid Ali, and under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Asaad Saleh Al-Kaabi, and in cooperation with the University of Mosul and Ferdowsi University in the Republic of Iran, the University of Karbala Presidency today hosted the Third International Scientific Conference of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The conference was held under the theme “Veterinary Medicine and Its Role in Promoting Public Health and Sustainability.”
The opening ceremony was held at the University Presidency with a prominent official and academic presence, led by Professor Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, Governor of Karbala, along with a select group of academic and scientific figures and deans of colleges of veterinary medicine from various Iraqi universities. A large number of researchers and academics specializing in veterinary medicine and public health participated in the conference.
In his opening remarks, the University President welcomed the distinguished guests, emphasizing the important role veterinary medicine plays in preventing common diseases, enhancing food security, and achieving sustainable development goals.
For his part, the Governor of Karbala emphasized the local government’s support for scientific and academic activities that contribute to serving the community and improving health and environmental conditions.
In a statement, the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Asaad Saleh Al-Kaabi, emphasized that “holding this conference represents an important step toward establishing a culture of joint scientific research and exchange of expertise between Iraqi and international universities. It also contributes to highlighting the role of the veterinarian in protecting public health and achieving sustainable development.” He added that the college seeks to expand the horizons of academic and scientific cooperation with reputable universities inside and outside Iraq, which will positively impact educational and research outcomes.
The conference included various scientific sessions during which researchers presented solid studies addressing the latest developments in the fields of veterinary diagnosis, public health, and preventive medicine, as well as issues related to sustainability and animal welfare. Several of the research papers presented at the conference were discussed within the halls of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala, amid broad scientific interaction from the attendees. This conference is part of a series of scientific activities that the College of Veterinary Medicine organizes annually to enhance scientific communication among researchers and support efforts to develop the state of veterinary medicine in Iraq and the region.
