Maryam Mahdi Saleh, a student from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala, won first place in the short story competition organized by Riyad al-Zahra magazine, affiliated with the Al-Mawadda wa Al-Izdihar Association for Women’s Development, a cultural institution affiliated with the Al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine. The competition, titled “Al-Ghadeer: A Promise from Heaven,” coincided with the Eid al-Ghadeer celebrations for the year 1446 AH.
The winning story, titled “Awakening of the Heart,” impressed the jury for its masterful narrative style and remarkable intellectual and literary depth, which enabled it to take first place amidst widespread participation from various governorates.
The winning student was honored during an official ceremony held on the occasion, attended by a number of literary and religious figures. She received a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her creativity and excellence.
For his part, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al Kaabi, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, expressed his pride in this achievement, emphasizing:
“This victory confirms that our students’ excellence is not limited to academics alone, but rather that they possess literary and cultural potential that deserves support and appreciation. We are proud that one of our college’s students is among the foremost innovators at the national level.”
He added that the college supports students’ talents in various fields and is committed to providing an environment that enhances their active presence in the fields of culture and creativity, in addition to their academic achievement.
This achievement is an honorable addition to the College of Veterinary Medicine and reflects the depth of the university’s mission to nurture young talent and contribute to building an informed and educated generation.
