Workshop on strategic planning within the National Strategy for Education and Higher Education 2022–2031

      As part of the implementation of the National Strategy for Education and Higher Education 2022–2031 the Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine under the direct supervision of the Dean of the Faculty Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al-Kaabi organised a workshop entitled:
‘Developing a Culture of Strategic Thinking and Planning in Higher Education Institutions’.

A number of faculty members and staff nominated for the national strategy programmes participated in the workshop which highlighted the rapid changes taking place in the world today and the importance of adopting strategic thinking as a fundamental approach to the development of higher education institutions. It was emphasised that strategic thinking represents a culture and practical approach that helps universities to anticipate the future, formulate their vision and mission, and achieve their goals efficiently and effectively.

The workshop aimed to raise participants’ awareness of the importance of strategic planning and equip them with practical skills that contribute to the development of the academic and administrative environment. It addressed the following main topics:
• Introduction to strategic thinking: concept, importance, and differences between traditional thinking and strategic thinking.
• The importance of strategic planning in higher education institutions and its role in improving academic and administrative performance.
• Stages and elements of strategic planning: preparing implementation plans and performance indicators.
• Potential challenges and follow-up and evaluation mechanisms to ensure effective strategic planning.

The lecture was presented by Assistant Professor Mohammed Jalil Abis who reviewed the topics in detail, supported by examples and practical applications. This workshop comes within the framework of the college’s efforts to adopt modern methodologies in academic management in line with national trends aimed at improving the quality of higher education and achieving sustainable development.
