Twenty-one Iraqi universities ranked in the Leiden Ranking of global research performance

       Twenty-one Iraqi universities achieved significant competitive results in the CWTS Leiden Ranking, which analyzes and evaluates the quality of scientific research at global academic institutions.

This ranking (https://open.leidenranking.com/ranking/2025/list) is based on measuring the quality of research output and its impact on the scientific community, using a set of key indicators:

▪️ Percentage of research publications within the top 10% globally in terms of citations.

▪️ Standardized Citation Score (MNCS).

▪️ Indicators of international scientific collaboration.

▪️ Analysis of research output, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The ranking results showed the competitive presence of the University of Baghdad, the University of Technology, Al-Mustansiriya University, the University of Babylon, the University of Mosul, the University of Basra, the University of Kufa, the University of Anbar, the University of Al-Nahrain, the University of Sulaimani, the University of Al-Qadisiyah, the University of Karbala, the University of Diyala, Salahaddin University in Erbil, the Middle Technical University, the University of Dhi Qar, the University of Duhok, the University of Wasit, the Iraqi University, the University of Kirkuk, and Sulaimani Polytechnic University.

The CWTS Leiden Ranking, issued by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University in the Netherlands, is one of the most important global rankings specializing in analyzing research performance. It relies on data from the Web of Science platform, owned by Clarivate Analytics, and is distinguished by its accuracy and objectivity in measuring the scientific impact of academic institutions.
