The College of Veterinary Medicine organizes a workshop entitled “Don’t Let Addiction Steal Your Life” as part of Anti-Drug Week activities.

     The Scientific Affairs and Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Units at the College of Veterinary Medicine, under the patronage and supervision of the Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al-Kaabi, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Don’t Let Addiction Steal Your Life.” This workshop coincided with Anti-Drug Week and was part of the health awareness and education programs designed to protect students and enhance their awareness of behavioral risks.

The lecturers:

• Prof. Dr. Rana Fadhil Mousa

• Asst. Prof. Dr. Raed Abdul-Mahdi Qasim

• Asst. Prof. Dr. Mayada Sahib Hassan

• Lecturer Amir Hadawi Zaghiroun

presented a brief explanation of the concept of addiction and its types, its most prominent psychological and social causes, in addition to clarifying its health, psychological, academic, and economic risks, early detection mechanisms, and methods of community protection.

The workshop also addressed the impact of drugs on the nervous system and mental health, emphasizing the crucial role of families, educational institutions, and academic bodies in creating a supportive environment capable of preventing addiction. It also presented examples of preventative measures and psychological support that can be offered to those recovering from addiction.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the college departments encouraged students not to hesitate to seek advice or assistance when needed, affirming their commitment to continuing awareness and guidance programs throughout the academic year.
