As part of its commitment to promoting a culture of safety and security within the academic and research environment the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Kerbala organised an in-person training course entitled ‘Chemical, Biological and Radiological Safety and Security’ for postgraduate students as part of its programmes aimed at improving their competence in the safe handling of laboratory materials and equipment.
The course included scientific lectures presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Juman Khalil Ibrahim and Assistant Professor Dr. Asaad Asaad Mohammed, who addressed key topics on laboratory safety principles, methods of safe storage and transport of hazardous materials mechanisms for preventing chemical, biological and radiological hazards as well as emergency response procedures and reducing risk levels in the research work environment.
The Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al-Kaabi, emphasised that this course is part of the College’s vision to provide a safe research environment that takes into account quality and safety standards, noting that raising awareness among postgraduate students about risk management is a fundamental step towards promoting responsible academic performance and ensuring the safety of researchers and scientific institutions .
The course concluded with a set of recommendations that emphasised the importance of applying safety and security standards on a daily basis in all laboratories and establishing a culture of prevention as part of academic behaviour and sound research practices.
