As part of the cooperation between the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Kerbala and the governorate’s veterinary hospital, the college participated in an extensive field campaign in coordination with veterinary staff at the Al-Hussainiya Veterinary Clinic to monitor the health and safety of fish in the Umm al-Hamam area.
The campaign aimed to conduct field investigations for fish diseases, particularly Koi Herpes Virus (KHV). The campaign included visits to several fish farming projects and the collection of samples for laboratory testing at the Veterinary Laboratory Department to ensure their safety and suitability for human consumption.
The campaign also included clinical examinations and assessments of the environmental and health conditions of the farming, transport, and display operations to ensure that the products conform to approved veterinary standards.
A number of college faculty members and fifth-year students participated in the campaign, providing a practical experience for veterinary medicine students and contributing to linking scientific knowledge with practical reality.
For his part, the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Asaad Al-Kaabi emphasized that these activities are part of the College’s vision to serve the community and enhance food security and public health, pointing out the continued organization of field and awareness campaigns that contribute to protecting fish wealth and animal products in the holy Karbala Governorate.
