The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The Protective Effect of Melatonin and Resveratrol on Methotrexate-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Male Rats,” submitted by researcher Noor Raed Mohammed to the Department of Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology.
The study aimed to evaluate the protective role of both melatonin and resveratrol in reducing liver damage and changes caused by methotrexate use, by examining the effect of these compounds on physiological, hematological, and histological indicators in male rats.
The study also included an assessment of histological changes and the degree of liver damage, along with an analysis of the gene expression of the BCL2 gene using RT-PCR technology, to determine the effectiveness of the two compounds in reducing the toxic effects of methotrexate on liver tissue.
The discussion committee consisted of Professor Maryam Abdul Hussein Kadhim as chairperson, Assistant Professor Sabaa Khamis Abdul as a member, Assistant Professor Khawla Ibrahim Abdul Hussein as a member, Professor Wafaa Kadhim Jassim as a member and supervisor, and Professor Rana Fadhil Musa as a member and supervisor.
