Faculty and students of the College of Veterinary Medicine launch a volunteer initiative to treat the animals of impoverished families, coinciding with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Kerbala launched a volunteer initiative, organized by the Human Rights Unit and with the participation of fifth-year students, to provide free medical and surgical services to the animals of impoverished families in the province. The initiative was supervised by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Asaad Al-Kaabi and a group of faculty members.

The initiative included veterinary examinations and treatment of various illnesses in domestic and farm animals, in addition to performing surgeries and providing preventative guidance to reduce the spread of zoonotic diseases. Free medications and medical supplies were also provided in cooperation with supporting organizations and several veterinary clinics.

The Dean of the College emphasized that the initiative reflects the College’s commitment to serving the community and supporting impoverished families, as well as enhancing students’ skills through field training and community engagement.

The initiative was well-received by the beneficiary families for the humanitarian and service-oriented support it provided, which contributes to alleviating financial burdens and improving animal health. The College continues to implement similar volunteer initiatives due to their clear social and educational impact.
