The College of Veterinary Medicine discusses a master’s thesis on therapeutic effect of Fenugreek (Trigonella. Foenum) leaves Alcoholic extract against nephrotoxicity induced by acetaminophen in male rats.

The Branch of Physiology, Biochemistry and pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine/University of Karbala conducted the discussion of a master’s thesis accomplished by the student (Bashir Ali Hassan) on the topic: Therapeutic effect of Fenugreek (Trigonella. Foenum) leaves Alcoholic extract against nephrotoxicity induced by acetaminophen in male rats. On Thursday, 12/8/2022 and in the presence of a number of academic researchers, the discussion conducted in the discussion hall in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The study aims to observe and test the preventive and therapeutic effects of alcoholic fenugreek extract in the treatment of nephrotoxicity caused by acetaminophen in male rats.

The research study concludes the results that oral dose of acetaminophen in high doses (2 g/kg body weight) to rats has a toxic effect on kidney and liver and blood parameters. Also, the improvement effects of fenugreek extract on blood parameters depend on the dose and the concentration of the extract. In addition, the effect of ethanol fenugreek extract caused creatinine and BUN to largely decrease in a dose-dependent treatment. More important result that alcoholic fenugreek extract restored the levels of erythrocytes, haemoglobin and MCT % to normal values in the T1 and T2 groups when compared to the control positive group (nephrotoxic animals of the College). Furthermore, the protective effects of alcoholic fenugreek extract are clearly shown in histological findings of kidneys and livers. The thesis approved with excellence degree.
